Jerry Desmond started his career after graduating from Hunter College in 1986. He began working as a Physical Therapist in 1986 at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn New York, where he primarily worked with neurological patients that included spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic sclerosis, cerebral vascular accidents and amputee management.
In 1988, he began working at the Center For Sports Medicine where he became a director in 1995 and then went onto becoming an investor as well as the director of Recovery Physical Therapy at the Grand Central location in Manhattan New York in 1999 and worked up until 2021. During this time period he attained his doctorate degree in 2012. He received formal recognition of clinical excellence by the American Physical Therapy Association with specialty certifications in both Orthopedics (OCS) in 2014 and Sports Medicine (SCS) in 2015, which is a rarity as not many people in the United States have both certifications. He has also volunteered in his community for the past 5 years as an EMT. Jerry is recognized as a specialist amongst his peers, physicians and by the many universities who send him students to teach and develop their clinical skills; a curriculum requirement. The State University of Buffalo gave him the Al Caffiero award for excellence in clinical instruction in 2019. Jerry does what he is passionate about, he sets very high goals and believes that hard work and commitment helps you achieve great outcomes.
Jerry recently moved to Leland North Carolina where he has opened up a new practice called Physical Therapy Fit for Life, where he is working primarily as a mobile PT going to homes, working out of gyms or doing Telehealth.
Jerry has been a Physical Therapist for the past Thirty-five years and has extensive experience in the field of sports rehabilitation with athletes at all levels of competition. He provides a “hands on” approach to treating orthopedics and sports-related injuries on a recreational level, as well as, a professional sports level. His sports experience includes working with athletes from the New Jersey Nets, New York Rangers, Alvin Ailey American dancers, professional tennis players, the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Amateur boxers, and baseball athletes.
His focus is on delivering exceptional results and services, learning new techniques, advancing capabilities, and of course, getting exceptional results. Jerry's philosophy has always been to enhance and bring out the best in people through education, practice, communication, hard work, commitment, constant encouragement and motivation. This allows people to keep moving, keep growing and keep working on their health in order to remain Fit For Life. Jerry represents you the patient, and the referring physician.
